Engr. Prof. C. U. Ogbuka

Cosmas Uchenna OGBUKA (Born on 1st April, 1981) is a Professor of Electric Power
Devices in the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He holds the following
degrees from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka: B.Eng. (First Class Honors), M.Eng. (Distinction) and Doctor
of Philosophy (Ph.D.) obtained in 2004, 2009, and 2014 respectively. He has undertaken research
fellowships to the following institutions:

  1. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)
  2. Chair of Electrical Drives and Actuators (EAA), University of the German Federal Armed Forces in Munich Germany
  3. The School of Industrial Engineering, University of Valladolid, Spain

. He has also attended academic conferences and workshops in the United Kingdom, United States, Italy, and several African countries including Ghana, Benin, Rwanda, and Gambia. His areas of research focus are:

  • Electric Drives: Development of new and energy-efficient control methods for electric machines
    in domestic and industrial drives including applications in Electric and Hybrid Electric Vehicles.
  • Power Electronic Converters: Development and control of power electronic converters for
    diverse applications, including in renewable energy systems.
  • Power Electronics Applications and Control of Electric Power Systems: Development of power
    electronic applications and advanced control methods for conventional and emerging electric power
    systems.


Engr. Dr. Ogbuka, a Fellow of the Nigeria Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (NIEEE), is the
Academic Programmes Coordinator/Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Officer of the Africa Centre of
Excellence for Sustainable Power and Energy Development (ACE-SPED), University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
